President Trump said the Department of Justice and FBI allowed the Russians to create divisiveness in the U.S. by so easily opening up an investigation into Russian collusion after the 2016 election.
“Our Justice Department and FBI played right into their hands with the stupid investigation or whatever you call it,” Trump said during an interview aired Tuesday on Fox Business.
Trump said that the Russians wanted to create chaos in the U.S. with their meddling in the presidential election, and he says they got that and they are now “laughing at us.”
Trump maintained his defense in the Russia investigation, saying that he would never call up Russia if he needed help to win the 2016 presidential election.
“Do you think I would call Russia, ‘I need help in Idaho. I need help in Iowa. Oh — Let's call Russia,’” Trump mocked.
He said the “con job” Russia investigation was being carried out by Democrats because they are still upset over losing the electoral college in the 2016 elections.
“They lost and they come up with this excuse, ‘Uh, we lost because of — let's see — Russia. Yeah, Russia.’ I didn't make one call,” Trump continued. “It's a witch hunt.”
Trump even said that Democrats are aware that the investigation is manufactured, and he says they “wink” at him.
