A bank robbery suspect has been shot and severely wounded by a Montgomery County police officer, police said.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Damascus after police responded to the second of two bank robberies early Tuesday and saw a man driving away in a vehicle whose description matched the robber in both robberies.

The first happened at 9:18 a.m., a man walked into a PNC Bank at 1375 Middlebrooke Road in Germantown, implied that he had a gun and demanded money.

An hour later, a man who matching that description struck another PNC Bank, at 26203 Ridge Road, in Damascus. He fled in a red Toyota, and police officer spotted the car and pursued it.

The suspect jumped from the vehicle at 25811 Bowman Acres Lane, in Damascus, where he was shot by a Montgomery Count Police officer.
