Prince George's police say a man was shot to death late Wednesday in Oxon Hill, making it the county's sixth homicide of the week.
County Executive Rushern Baker said Thursday that the deadly start to the new year "deeply concerns me."
"I want the community to know that I have been in regular contact with [Interim Police Chief Mark Magaw] and he has assured me that he is committing all the resources within his means to solve these killings," Baker said in a statement.
On Tuesday alone, four people died in separate incidents, though police say two may be related.
Baker added: "I will ensure that whatever additional resources the Chief needs are made available to him."
