HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra is calling for six debates with Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow.
In a news release issued Friday, Hoekstra says it's "time for Senator Stabenow to answer for her record in public."
Stabenow campaign spokesman Cullen Schwarz says "we look forward to the candidates debating, and as with every statewide race, the campaigns will need to sit down with each other and figure out when that can happen."
Hoekstra won the GOP nomination last week. Now, the former congressman from Holland is turning his attention to Stabenow, who's seeking a third term.
She has four times the available campaign cash as Hoekstra and led him in polling conducted ahead of the primary that asked likely voters about a head-to-head matchup between the two.
