is a mess, racked with homelessness, poverty, and a high cost of living that is chasing productive residents out of the state. There are many issues the state could focus on to improve the lives of its 39 million residents. Rather than do that, California Democrats want the state to become the abortion capital of America.

Gov. Gavin Newsom declared that he wanted the state to become a “sanctuary” for ending the lives of unborn children. With a Democratic supermajority in the state legislature and no statewide Republican leadership to offer resistance, nothing is stopping Newsom and his Democratic colleagues from doing just that.

Newsom is currently considering a $20 million plan to help bring expectant mothers to California from states with stricter regulations so they can end their expectations.

If the Supreme Court does overturn Roe v. Wade, then California’s sanctuary status would give it a grim milestone. Despite having 12% of the population, California could jump from having 21% of the country’s abortion clinics to more than 29%. On the list of California’s bleak “accomplishments,” this would surpass the state having 28% of the nation’s homeless population.

Abortion has become such a priority in California that Newsom and U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have butted heads over which one has defended abortion more. When Newsom asked where the Democratic Party was in the battle on abortion and why there wasn’t a counteroffensive, Pelosi boasted of her decades of fighting on behalf of abortion — lest anyone forget how she has dedicated her public career to defending a procedure that has ended more than 63 million lives since 1973.

California has become the home of gruesome abortion cheerleading, with activists and Democratic politicians making unfettered abortion access their No. 1 priority. It doesn’t matter how far into the pregnancy or whether or not the unborn child has to have its limbs removed piece by piece after he or she is killed. The enthusiastic support for abortion, a procedure whose sole purpose is to end a human life, is what California Democrats like Newsom want the state to be known for.
