The people tossing the race card around like so many beads at Mardi Gras need to be more careful.

They’re in danger of rendering the card completely useless, devoid of any meaning or power.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid accused Tesla CEO Elon Musk of “misappropriating black vernacular” this week after he jokingly referred to Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts as a “Karen.”

The pejorative “Karen,” by the way, is defined by Urban Dictionary as a “Middle aged woman, typically blonde, makes solutions to others' problems an inconvenience to her although she isn't even remotely affected.”

Warren tweeted this week, “Let’s change the rigged tax code so [Musk] will actually pay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else.”

Musk responded, “You remind me of when I was a kid and my friend’s angry Mom would just randomly yell at everyone for no reason. Please don’t call the manager on me, Senator Karen.”

The Tesla CEO continued, noting he will pay more taxes in 2021 than any American in history.

“Don’t spend it all at once,” Musk added in response to Warren. “Oh wait you did already.”

Reid heard a racial dog whistle. It’s apparently problematic for Musk to refer to Warren as a “Karen” because the slang term “Karen” is supposedly exclusive to the black community.

“So, for so many reasons, being a freeloader and a selfish and disrespectful one, and for misappropriating black vernacular for misogynistic purposes, Elon Musk is the absolute worst,” she declared.

It can't be missed that Reid’s remarks come in defense of the U.S. senator who spent decades posing as a Native American, a charade the MSNBC host never once criticized or condemned. Warren claimed she was a Native American when she applied for a teaching position at Harvard Law School. Her supposed ancestry even won her the title of Harvard Law School's "first woman of color.” The best the senator can say is she is maybe — maybe! — 1/64th Cherokee.
