CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Olympic champion swimmer Allison Schmitt says she's looking forward to spending some time at home after winning five medals for the U.S. in London.

A crowd of hundreds greeted Schmitt on Tuesday in Wayne County's Canton Township, west of Detroit, and celebrated her three gold medals, one silver and one bronze. Schmitt attended high school there and trained as in Ann Arbor as a youth and throughout high school. She says it's a "great atmosphere" in the area.

Schmitt says Wednesday will be her first chance to relax since London. Still, AnnArbor.com reports, she's looking ahead and says she's already thinking about competing in the 2016 summer games.

After the event, The Detroit News reports Schmitt spent more than an hour posing for pictures, signing autographs and chatting with fans.
