New York police charged 35-year-old Oscar Moral late Monday with the shooting deaths of a Muslim imam and his associate as they left a mosque over the weekend.

Morel was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in what prosecutors believe were pre-meditated crimes, according to the New York Police Department's chief of detectives, Robert Boyce.

Officials have not ruled the incident a "hate crime," but Boyce said the option was "certainly on the table."

Surveillance video shows Morel fleeing the crime scene in a black GMC Trailblazer after shooting Imam Maulana Alauddin Akonjee and Thara Uddin in the head.

Morel struck a bicyclist with his SUV as he attempted to get away and then slammed the vehicle into an unmarked police car.
