NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Chesapeake man faces up to six years in prison for failing to report $1.4 million in income to the Internal Revenue Service.
U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride says 43-year-old Thomas W. Sawyer pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Norfolk to two counts of filing a false tax return.
According to court documents, Sawyer didn't declare gratuities he received from Chinese manufacturers over a four-year period.
The former Dollar Tree Inc. employee procured Chinese goods to be sold in the company's stores. He received the gratuities in exchange for selecting the manufacturers' products.
Sawyer is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 20.
