Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced Thursday that he will not be attending the Future Investment Initiative summit in Saudi Arabia.

"Just met with @realDonaldTrump and @SecPompeo and we have decided, I will not be participating in the Future Investment Initiative summit in Saudi Arabia," Mnuchin tweeted Thursday.

Mnuchin received a great deal of pressure about his intention to attend an economic conference in Saudi Arabia in light of Saudi dissident and U.S. resident Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance and possible murder. The secretary said late last week that he was still planning on going, but on Sunday White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Mnuchin was second-guessing that decision.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, was last seen the afternoon of Oct. 2 entering the Saudi mission. Turkish investigators believe he was murdered inside the embassy, where he was to fill out paperwork for his wedding, and previously told U.S. officials they have audio and video evidence to prove it. The Turkish officials claim Khashoggi was dismembered at the consulate.
