President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden delivered a message about perseverance in reflecting on the past year in the final hours of 2021.
The first couple appeared in a prerecorded video Friday evening during the ABC broadcast of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.
"We've learned again this year what we've always known: There's no quitting in America. No matter how tough the challenge, how high the obstacles, we always overcome," the president said.

President Biden said in the video he is more optimistic about the nation's future now "than he's ever been."

At the end of the video, the Bidens invite their new puppy, Commander, to sit in front of them. After a bit of encouragement from President Biden, Commander took a seat as the Bidens pet him. The couple then clinked what looked to be champagne-filled glasses and wished the U.S. a happy new year one last time.
