A man decided to jump into action when he saw an elderly woman getting robbed in an Ohio grocery store on Sunday.

Suspect Derek Vauhn, 58, tried to steal 87-year-old Pat Goins's purse at a Kroger store in Lemon Township around 11 a.m., according to Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.

Goins says she was shopping in a store aisle when Vauhn approached her.

“He stole my purse out of the cart,” Goins said, Cleveland 19 reports. She said 10-15 people immediately began chasing Vauhn into the parking lot, including Deshawn Pressley, who apprehended the suspect.

“And he [Vauhn] ran right past me, and I chased him down,” Pressley said. “He got to his car and everything, but I grabbed him, held him to the floor, got him down. Did what I had to do until the police arrived.”

Footage from a security camera shows Pressley striking Vauhn repeatedly in the parking lot as he attempted to flee.

Goins says after Vauhn was apprehended, the crowd made him apologize to her for the attempted theft.
