New York state Attorney General Letitia James says she wants liability for gun manufacturers and gun distributors and would be in favor of new state legislation that allows individuals to sue those who put guns on New York’s streets.

James appeared on The View Tuesday morning and congratulated Gov. Gavin Newsom for his recent move to push for new gun legislation in California.

“We [in New York] need to follow his lead,” James said.

James stated that it is not enough to pray and have people offer their hearts to those who have lost lives.

“And the reason why that is is gun manufacturers and gun distributors in this country are immunized — no liability whatsoever. They are the only industry that is protected in this country,” James said.

Newsom announced Saturday that he will work with the California state Legislature and attorney general to “create a right of action” that would allow citizens to seek injunctive relief and damages of at least $10,000 per violation “against anyone who manufactures, distributes or sells an assault weapon or ghost gun kit.”
