President Trump is speaking at a “Make America Great Again” rally in Richmond, Ky., to tout support for U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, who is facing Democratic challenger Amy McGrath in Kentucky's hotly contested 6th Congressional District race.
Trump tweeted his endorsement of Barr on Saturday, saying he is a “Fantastic guy, need his vote for MAGA! Strong on Crime, Tax Cuts, Military, Vets & 2nd A. His opponent will NEVER vote for us, only for Pelosi. Andy has my Strongest Endorsement!!!”
Trump’s rally comes the same day as his meeting with Andrew Brunson less than 24 hours after the American pastor was freed by Turkey. Trump said that while Brunson’s release was not part of any deal, it was likely to improve relations with Turkey.
Trump's visit to the state is part of his ongoing tour of the country — involving stops in six states over 10 days to energize voters to back Republicans in tight races for the House of Representatives.
