Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said mental health is essential to monitor as people worldwide prepare for year three of the pandemic.
"Mental health is a very important and difficult situation that we're dealing with right now," Fauci said Thursday on News Nation's Mornings in America.
He recognized "the healthcare providers who are stressed to the limit" and "children whose normal life as a child is often disrupted."

Fauci's comments arrive when many are reentering isolation as the omicron variant is causing case numbers to soar across the United States.
"Mental health is a very, very important part of what's going on right now, and that's the reason why there are programs now that are specifically addressing that," he said.
"The surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, has come out and spoken very explicitly about the importance of addressing the mental health issues that are associated with this pandemic."
Murthy recently issued a public health advisory discussing the mental health of young people and the challenges they face due to the pandemic, according to a report.
"It would be a tragedy if we beat back one public health crisis only to allow another to grow in its place," Murthy said.
