President Trump told reporters Monday he considered the news media to be "part of the Democratic Party."

During a press conference in the Rose Garden, where Trump was touting a new trade deal with Mexico and Canada, reporters repeatedly asked him to comment on the controversy over his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

Trump replied by referring to reporters as "you Democrats."

"I consider you, the media, a part of the Democratic Party," he said.

Trump said Democrats accusing Kavanaugh of lying about his drinking habits in college should instead look at Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., who in the past admitted to embellishing his military service.

"He never went to Vietnam. And he's up there saying, 'We need honestly and we need integrity.' This guy lied when he was the attorney general of Connecticut," Trump said. "He lied."

Kavanaugh is waiting for a confirmation vote, after it was once again delayed last week so that the FBI can conduct a "limited" investigation into allegations of sexual assault that date back more than 30 years ago.
