President Trump praised San Francisco 49ers first round draft pick Nick Bosa in a Saturday morning tweet.

“Congratulations to Nick Bosa on being picked number two in the NFL Draft. You will be a great player for years to come, maybe one of the best. Big Talent! San Francisco will embrace you but most importantly, always stay true to yourself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump said in a tweet.

Bosa, a defensive end, has been a longtime supporter of Trump, saying in an interview during the 2016 campaign he was a “big fan” and Trump was a once in a lifetime candidate.

In the run-up to the draft, Bosa started deleting old social media posts, concerned that he might be drafted to San Francisco 49ers, the team where Colin Kaepernick played and protested the national anthem. Kaepernick's kneeling protest led to widespread controversy and was largely condemned by conservatives.

In his introductory press conference to the 49ers, Bosa took a conciliatory tone, apologizing for a 2016 post where he called Kaepernick “a clown.”

Trump has been a frequent critic of Kaepernick and the national anthem protests he inspired in the NFL.
