A video went viral over the Christmas weekend of a woman slapping and spitting on a man on a Delta flight while yelling, "Put your mask on."

Police responded to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport last week over an unruly flight passenger on a Delta flight from Tampa to Atlanta, WSBTV reports.


Passengers on the plane told police that a woman on the flight named Patricia Cornwall caused a disturbance and injured another passenger. She was taken into federal custody after being detained on the plane, according to Atlanta police.

The video of the incident shows a woman standing over an older man's flight seat, telling him to "put your f***ing mask on."

She then tells the man to "stand your a** up," to which the man replies, "Sit down, Karen."

A third passenger approaches the woman, who is not wearing a mask herself, and asks her to "mask up."

The woman then slaps the unmasked man in the face, as flight attendants and other passengers try to deescalate the situation.


Delta released a statement on Sunday regarding the incident, emphasizing the company's "zero tolerance policy" for unruly passengers.

“Flight 2790 from Tampa to Atlanta was met by law enforcement after an unruly customer disturbance during flight," a spokesperson for Delta said in the statement. "Situations like these are rare for the vast majority of our customers and Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior at our airports and aboard our aircraft.”

Social media users reacted to the video of the woman, which quickly went viral.

"Karen is saving the world," tweeted Rep. Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican.


"Imagine being upset because someone's mask isn't on, while you're currently not wearing one, and getting so crazed over the situation you spit in a guys face the irony is incredible," tweeted MMA fighter and jiujitsu champion Gary Tonon. "Not only that she's probably in her 30s and that guy looks like he's in his 60s. If anyone should be scared of covid it should be him."
