Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is crowing over a nickname bestowed upon him by former President Donald Trump, paying homage to the "Old Crow" moniker with his choice of bourbon gifted to Republican senators.
McConnell gifted his Republican colleagues a bottle of Old Crow bourbon during a weekly lunch in honor of Saturday's Kentucky Derby race, a reference to Trump denouncing McConnell as an "Old Crow" for holding opposing political positions, according to the Courier-Journal.
"I am so proud to call Kentucky home and bring the spirit of the Kentucky Derby to our Nation's Capitol," McConnell told the outlet. "This event unites everyone from across my home state and puts the best of the Commonwealth on display under the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs."

"Kentucky is recognized as the world capital of both bourbon and horses, industries that contribute to our state's economy and tourism," McConnell said.
The senator has previously shrugged off Trump's criticisms, revealing in an interview with the Washington Examiner in February that he welcomes the "Old Crow" nickname as a compliment.
"It's my favorite bourbon," McConnell said of the drink, noting that it was also Kentucky Rep. Henry Clay's favorite bourbon centuries ago.

McConnell provided other Southern food staples, such as fried okra, corn pudding, fried chicken, and biscuits. Small packages of Kentucky Derby pie were also available during the luncheon, a photo posted by McConnell's press secretary, Doug Andres, showed.
"As the world turns its eyes to the Commonwealth for the 148th Kentucky Derby, I'm bringing a little slice of those traditions to the United States Senate," McConnell said.
McConnell and Trump have long been at odds despite serving as two of the most high-profile Republicans during the former president's term. It was revealed that McConnell was "exhilarated" that Trump had "finally, totally discredited" himself hours after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
"He put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger," McConnell said, according to excerpts from the yet-to-be-released book This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future. "Couldn't have happened at a better time."

Trump has used the "Old Crow" moniker for McConnell on several occasions, including when criticizing former Vice President Mike Pence's decision to certify President Joe Biden's 2020 victory.
The Washington Examiner reached out to McConnell's office for a request for comment.
