Looks like Santa Claus is on the naughty list in Germany this year.
Police arrested a man dressed as Santa Claus at the Stralsund Christmas market on Monday for allegedly not showing his identification. The Santa Claus was part of a group of 65 people protesting anti-COVID measures in the country, according to Twitchy.
"The 47-year-old from Stralsund was obviously an actor in the gathering," local police wrote on social media. "He was not used as Santa Claus at the Christmas market there."

Santa Claus's identity was eventually discovered by the police, and he was released roughly an hour after his arrest. He was allegedly "at large again" for suspicion of having committed crimes against the country's Assembly Act, the outlet reported.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced several new restrictions on Dec. 2 to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including only allowing vaccinated and previously infected individuals access to nonessential retail, cultural events, and leisure events.

As of Monday, Germany has over 982,000 patients currently infected with COVID-19, with 4,636 of them in serious or critical condition, according to WorldOMeter. At least 72% of the country's population has received a vaccine dose against COVID-19, with 69% fully vaccinated, according to Our World in Data.
