The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., will remain open with modifications to its Christmas services schedule in light of the recent rise in COVID-19 cases.

According to a statement issued by the cathedral, two services, including the Family Christmas Service scheduled for Dec. 23 and the Christmas Day Eucharist, will be canceled.

The cathedral will also be closed on Christmas Day.

“Like that very first Christmas in Bethlehem, we find ourselves in a tumultuous period, with anxiety and uncertainty around every corner. Yet we also know that the baby in the manger was Emmanuel, God with us,” the statement said. “Guided by faith and the best available science, we will continue to gather to celebrate the love that came down at Christmas."
