Billionaire Elon Musk would "would reverse the permaban" of former President Donald Trump, he said.
The decision to ban the then-president after the Jan. 6 protests was, according to Musk, a "morally bad decision and foolish in the extreme."
"I would reverse the ban — but I don't own Twitter yet," Musk said during a Tuesday keynote interview organized by the Financial Times, alleging that former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey agrees with him on this stance.

"I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump," Musk added. "I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice."
Twitter banned Trump in early January 2021 due to his words and actions preceding the Jan. 6 attack, which the company said violated its policies.
After Twitter's board of directors announced on April 25 that it was accepting a buyout offer from Musk, a free speech proponent, a flurry of speculation emerged regarding whether Musk would reinstate Trump.

Trump himself has denied any interest in returning to Twitter, claiming he finds the platform boring and saying he intends to focus on his own social platform, Truth Social.
While Musk's final acquisition of Twitter will not occur for several more months, he has continued to critique the company for its approach to content moderation, alleging that the company has a "strong left-wing bias" in its censorship decisions, such as the company's moves to censor a New York Post story about Hunter Biden's laptop ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
