In an effort to restore Johnny Depp’s role as Jack Sparrow in the Walt Disney Company’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, two petitions are gaining traction amid the actor’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Both petitions, posted to Change.org, have attracted more than 500,000 signatures.
One petition had nearly 800,000 signatures as of Monday morning. It was first launched a year ago and specifically sent to Disney and Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
“Can you imagine no Jack Sparrow at all?” the petition laments. “No epic entry scores, no humorous dialogues and the guy with the most good and bad luck at the same time?”

Another petition, called “Justice for Johnny Depp,” has garnered more than 560,000 signatures as of Monday morning. The petition asks Disney and its executives to “reconsider your decision” and reinstate Depp in his Pirates role, saying that “Amber Heard ruined Johnny Depp's life as well as career."
"Johnny Depp deserves his life back the way it was before Amber Heard came along, because no actor or actress could ever say this man is not an amazing actor," the petition reads. "If you were falsely accused of something you did not do, then there's proof you didn't do it and you still were treated like a bad person, wouldn't you want Justice??"
Last week, Hollywood entertainment lawyer Richard Marks testified that industry culture means accusations of abuse lead to actors being "canceled." Depp is suing Heard for $50 million, saying he has lost “nothing less than everything.”

In comparison, Heard’s role in Aquaman 2 was reportedly cut to just 10 minutes following a petition that called for the actress’s removal from the film.
