First lady Melania’s Trump’s controversial jacket emblazoned with the message “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” was directed at critics of her trip to the border to visit migrant children separated from their parents, according to a new report.
Trump’s spokeswoman insisted the jacket had no hidden message after the first lady was widely criticized for perceived insensitivity. She wore the jacket to board her plane to visit children being held in detention centers in Texas in June, and again upon her return to the White House.
The president tweeted upon her return that the message was directed at the media.
“I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!

But a person close to the first lady told the New York Times the message was directed at her critics, both inside and outside the White House, who questioned her decision to visit the children amid her husband’s immigration policies that led to family separations.
“No one tells the first lady what to do,” Trump’s communications director Stephanie Grisham told the Times. “Our office has nothing to do with what clothing choices she makes and this situation was no different.”
