A spokeswoman for Melania Trump fired back at the media for its coverage Thursday of the first lady’s jacket that read, “I really don’t care, do u?”
Trump wore the jacket while boarding a plane to Texas to visit children being held in detention centers after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.
Trump’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said the media should focus more on the first lady’s actions to help children instead of reporting on possible hidden meanings behind her wardrobe choices.
“Today’s visit w the children in Texas impacted [Trump] greatly. If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids - rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe - we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children,” Grisham tweeted.

Grisham told the Washington Examiner earlier Thursday that there was no hidden message in Trump’s choice of jacket. Trump changed into a different jacket by the time she arrived in Texas.
It’s not the first time Trump’s outfit has caused a frenzy. Last fall, Trump wore high heels when leaving the White House to visit hurricane victims in Texas. She was wearing a pair of sneakers when she exited the plane.
