Two loose zebras in Maryland that have been on the run for months have been captured and taken to safety, according to a spokesperson for the Prince George's County government.

While the exact location of the zebras, whose disappearance over the summer sparked a media storm, was not disclosed, officials promised they were being taken care of, according to WUSA9.

"They're safe. They are not on the loose," said spokeswoman Linda Lowe.

TO CATCH A ZEBRA, MARYLAND OFFICIALS DECIDE TO USE MORE ZEBRAS

The two captured animals, owned by animal breeder Jerry Holly, were part of an initial group of three zebras that escaped from their larger herd of 30 zebras at an 80-acre farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, on Aug. 31.

It was revealed on Oct. 14 that one of the zebras had died after becoming caught in an illegal snare trap on someone's private property.

Some officials have acknowledged the uproar over the incident, with Eleanor Holmes Norton, a delegate for Washington, D.C., issuing a tongue-in-cheek statement saying her "alibi is solid."

The Washington Examiner reached out to Lowe for a statement but did not receive a response.
