Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, the vice chairwoman of the House select committee formed to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, assured the public that the committee is getting information with hundreds of cooperating witnesses amid a wave of high-profile witnesses refusing to cooperate.

“The Committee has already met with nearly 300 witnesses; we hear from four more key figures in the investigation today. We are conducting multiple depositions and interviews every week,” Cheney said on Twitter.

On Wednesday, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows filed a lawsuit against the committee shortly after it said that it would have “no choice” but to hold Meadows in contempt of Congress and refer him for criminal prosecution for not cooperating more fully with the investigation.

But even Meadows has provided critical information, Cheney noted.

“We have received exceptionally interesting and important documents from a number of witnesses, including Mark Meadows. He has turned over many texts from his private cell phone from January 6th,” Cheney said. “We have litigated and won Trump’s executive privilege case in Federal District Court. The Federal Appellate Court has expedited the appeal, and we anticipate a ruling regarding many more Trump White House documents soon.”

On Thursday, the committee is deposing four more witnesses. Among those is Ali Alexander, an organizer of the “Stop the Steal” campaign.

Alexander, who arrived at his deposition with right-wing conspiracy theorist Jacob Wohl, told reporters that he planned to cooperate with the committee and believed his testimony would exonerate him and former President Donald Trump. He added, though, that he would invoke his Fifth Amendment rights if necessary.

"I had nothing to do with any violence or lawbreaking that happened on January 6," Alexander said in a written opening statement provided to reporters. "Anyone who suggests I had anything to do with the unlawful activities on January 6 is wrong."

“Do not be misled: President Trump is trying to hide what happened on January 6th and to delay and obstruct,” Cheney said. “We will not let that happen.”
