White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Monday called on the press to stop looking for ways to blame President Trump for the synagogue shooting over the weekend that left 11 people dead.

"Politicians pointing the finger, media making it about themselves," she said on Fox News. "Cut it out, and recognize that this man went in there to 'kill Jews.'"

Conway said Trump has always asked people to unite when tragedy strikes, but she said the press keeps trying to turn every tragedy into a weapon against Trump's presidency. She said cable news shows do this more than most.

"The kind of rhetoric that is said day in and day out about this White House, the people who work here, the president, the vice president, their families," she said. "It's got to stop."

She said members of the press have compared the Central American caravan to concentration camps during World War II, and said "That's got to stop."

"The media brings themselves into everything," she said. "It's always about them and it's always about President Trump."
