James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of suspected shooter Ethan Crumbley, have asked that their bails be reduced.

The Crumbleys, who are pleading not guilty to four counts of involuntary manslaughter as a result of their son's alleged killing of four classmates, have requested through their defense lawyers that their bails be reduced from $500,000 to $100,000 each in the hope that they can be released from jail. They currently would need to put forward $1 million to both be released.

SCHOOL SHOOTING SUSPECT AND PARENTS HELD AT SAME FACILITY ON SUICIDE WATCH

“The Crumbleys, like every parent and community member, are devastated by the school shooting,” defense attorneys Shannon Smith and Mariell Lehman said in a court filing Wednesday. “The last thing they expected was that a school shooting would take place, or that their son would be responsible.”

Smith said the couple would consent to wearing ankle monitors if released.

But prosecutor Karen McDonald, who filed the involuntary manslaughter charges against the Crumbleys, said she would fight a lower bond.

Smith said the prosecutor's actions stem from "anger."

"It is clear from the media appearances by Ms. McDonald that this case is one she takes very personally, was filed out of anger and filed in an effort to send a message to gun owners," Smith said.

Authorities arrested the couple after an hourslong manhunt when they failed to appear at a hearing on Dec. 3. Smith said they were not trying to flee and intended to present themselves at a different hearing the next day.
