The Monday hit-and-run occurred at midday when a 2009 Honda Accord Sedan, believed to have been driven by Greer, sped by a bus and hit multiple children. After striking the children, the vehicle accelerated and fled the area. Two of the children hit were pronounced dead on the scene, while four others were transported to the nearby hospital.

"This event is a horrific event any time of the year, let alone right after the holidays," Fort Lauderdale Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan said in a statement on Monday. "And at this time, we're helping the families as well as our first responders by having grief counselors on-site to guide them through."
