Countries are reopening embassies in Ukraine's capital of Kyiv as Russia's war extends into its third month.
A list of those nations making a return, in a show of confidence as Ukraine puts up a fierce defense against the invaders, is below. The United States has yet to announce a return, though Kristina Kvien, the acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, and her team visited Kyiv on Sunday, the first time since Russia began its invasion in late February.
Canada
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Sunday. He announced the reopening of the Canadian Embassy and that the country's ambassador would be posted there. The country closed its Ukrainian Embassy on Feb. 12, roughly two weeks prior to Russia's invasion, according to CP24.
Trudeau met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit and announced $50 million in additional military support for Ukraine.

Denmark
During his visit to Kyiv on May 2, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod of Denmark announced the reopening of the country's embassy in Ukraine's capital, where he raised the Danish flag to commemorate the occasion.

United Kingdom
The reopening of the British Embassy in Kyiv was announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on April 22 during a two-day visit to India. Prior to Russia's invasion, the U.K. moved its embassy to Lviv, a city in the western part of Ukraine that has largely been devoid of fighting.
Italy
Italy's ambassador to Ukraine, Pier Francesco Zazo, announced the reopening of his country's embassy on April 15. Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said the embassy would be fully operational starting April 18. The country closed its embassy Feb. 24, the same day Russia began its invasion, according to Schengen Visa.
France
France reopened its embassy in Kyiv on April 14 with only 10 personnel after the consulate was relocated to Lviv prior to Russia's invasion. Paris's envoy to Ukraine, Etienne de Poncins, said the delegation's presence in Kyiv signifies that Ukrainians had defended the capital and did not allow it to be conquered by the “invaders,” according to Republic World.

Other countries that have sent their diplomats back to Kyiv to reopen their embassies include Turkey, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Belgium, and Austria, according to Foreign Policy.
