Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the birth of a baby girl on Sunday, who was born in a Santa Barbara hospital on Friday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex named their child Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Markle and the baby are healthy and well.

"On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili," the couple said in a statement. "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."

Lili weighed 7 lbs, 11 oz. and is named after her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Diana is the namesake of her late grandmother, the princess of Wales, who died in a car crash in 1997.

The couple has one other child, a 2-year-old son named Archie, who was born in 2019.

The two announced Markle's pregnancy in February, just months after she wrote of her struggles of suffering a miscarriage in a November op-ed in the New York Times.

"I was exhausted. I was breastfeeding our infant son, and I was trying to keep a brave face in the very public eye," Markle wrote, referring to the emotions she felt during a South Africa tour with her husband.

Markle has been open about her bouts with depression since joining the British royal family, even saying that she had at one point contemplated taking her own life.
