George Washington University announced all eligible students are required to get the COVID booster shot by March or they will not be allowed to register for classes for the following semester, according to an email the school sent to students on Monday.

"The booster requirement aligns with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation and is part of our ongoing efforts to keep the GW community healthy and safe amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," the email reads.

All students, faculty, and staff in "university-operated facilities" must get a dose of the COVID booster by Feb. 1, 2022, or face weekly COVID-19 testing requirements. If students do not receive the dose by March 15, they "will not be eligible to register for summer or fall classes."

Faculty who do not receive the dose will be issued a warning and "subsequent employment actions may be taken," according to the email.

People with religious or medical exemptions do not have to receive the booster dose but must "continue to follow required campus health protocols," according to the university.
