Several packages were stolen after a thief carjacked an Amazon van Monday evening.
The thief approached the driver at about 5:30 p.m. before showing that he had a gun, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Drake Madison told the Daily Breeze. The driver got out of the vehicle, allowing the thief to get in and drive away. The driver was not hurt in the exchange.
“We’re committed to the safety of drivers who deliver our packages,” an Amazon spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times. “We’re looking into the incident and supporting law enforcement with their investigation.”
The van was eventually recovered, with some packages missing, Madison said. LAPD did not disclose the number of packages stolen or the identity of the suspect.

California has been dealing with rising crime, including several incidents of shoplifting in the state. On Nov. 20, A group of thieves emptied a Louis Vuitton store in San Francisco. Walgreens announced it was closing five stores in California due to increased reports of shoplifting.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said during a Nov. 23 press conference that he has “no sympathy, no empathy whatsoever for people smashing and grabbing, stealing people’s items, creating havoc and terror on our streets." He also called out local district attorneys for failing to prosecute the criminals in question.

LAPD and Amazon did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Washington Examiner.
