A prison officer was suspended after making a "despicable" post on Facebook referencing the Buffalo mass shooting.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision announced on Tuesday that it was seeking the termination of Gregory Foster after reviewing the man's social media feed for comments referencing the Saturday shooting. Foster has served within the prison system for several years and spent just under 25 years with the department, according to NEWS10 WIVB.

"The comments made by this correction officer are despicable, stand in violation of multiple Department rules, and will not be tolerated," the department said in a statement. "This vile posting does not represent the morals and values of the thousands of staff members in the Department."
"The individual responsible has been suspended without pay, and DOCCS will be seeking termination," the department added.
The department also signaled penalties for staff members who approved of the post, some of whom "joined and commented on the post with 'laugh emojis,'" according to a memo from the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, the police union board.
"The Department has also launched an internal investigation to identify and discipline any staff who may have engaged with the posting," DOCSS added in its statement.
