Chris Cuomo swung back at his old boss by alleging Jeff Zucker knew he had been helping Andrew Cuomo protect himself.

Former CNN host Chris Cuomo alleged that CNN President Zucker was previously aware of his actions supporting his brother Andrew during allegations of sexual misconduct.

"[Cuomo and Zucker] were widely known to be extremely close and in regular contact, including about the details of Mr. Cuomo's support for his brother," said a spokesperson for Chris Cuomo. The spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal that "there were no secrets about this, as other individuals besides Mr. Cuomo can attest."

CNN denies Cuomo's allegations. "He has made a number of accusations that are patently false," CNN said. "This reinforces why he was terminated for violating our standards and practices, as well as his lack of candor."

Cuomo was fired by CNN on Saturday after the news network discovered "new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother's defense." The network had suspended Cuomo while investigating the allegations that Cuomo helped his brother with his defense against accusations of sexual misconduct.

In a 2019 Hollywood Reporter feature, Zucker defended Cuomo, saying that his willingness to "never back down from a fight" was what made Cuomo "the perfect cable news anchor."

That support for Cuomo continued when the allegations of Cuomo helping his older brother arose in May. During a CNN town hall, Zucker conceded that Cuomo had "made a mistake." Zucker then argued that suspending him would be "punishment for the sake of punishing."

Michael Smerconish is expected to fill Chris Cuomo's slot on CNN for the time being.
