Mothers got an unexpected gift on their big day.

A Catholic school in Pennsylvania apologized for briefly selling faux roses complete with lacy thongs ahead of Mother's Day.

Philadelphia's St. Anselm’s Catholic School organized a plant sale a week ahead of the holiday for pre-K to eighth-grade students to buy gifts for their mothers. Among the plants were individually wrapped flowers with matching underwear included between the petals.

"Thank you, St. Anselm’s," a student's mother said between giggles in a Facebook video. Her caption explained that the school "didn't realize it was underwear."

St. Anselm halted the sale when officials realized the mistake. The school is reportedly continuing to investigate how the error occurred.

"Saint Anselm Parish School took immediate steps to remediate this issue when it became known inclusive of broad communication with school families," said Archdiocese of Philadelphia chief communication officer Ken Gavin. "The situation represents an unfortunate mistake, and we apologize deeply."

"We sincerely regret any embarrassment and discomfort that was caused and wish all mothers in the community a happy and blessed Mother’s Day with hearts full of gratitude," Gavin continued.
