THE RECALL: General Motors is recalling more than 10,000 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans in the U.S. and Canada. The 2003 and 2004 model year vans with left-side cargo doors were sold or are registered in 20 cold-weather states and Washington, D.C., where salt is used to clear snow from roads.

THE REASON: Salt can get trapped in a conduit that covers the fuel filler pipe and cause the pipe to rust. The pipe can leak, spill gas and cause a fire. GM knows of no fires or injuries.

THE REMEDY: GM dealers will replace the pipe free of charge. Owners are expected to be notified in October when parts become available.
