BOX OFFICE BLAST: "The Avengers" helped Disney's third-quarter earnings of $1.01 per share beat analysts' expectations of 93 cents per share. Revenue rose 3 percent to $11.09 billion, short of the $11.32 billion expected.

STUDIO REBOUND: Studio profits jumped to $313 million from $49 million a year ago, although revenue was flat at $1.63 billion, hurt by falling sales of DVDs.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS: Disney took issue with analysts' overheated revenue expectations. CEO Bob Iger said the gap between results and expectations was a "miss of estimates," not results.
