New York's Administration for Child Services has started an investigation into Anthony Weiner, after a lewd photo went public showing his crotch with his young son lying in bed next to him.
Child welfare officials showed up at the Union Square apartment that Weiner shares with wife Huma Abedin on Tuesday, the New York Post reported. It is not clear if they gained access to the apartment.
The agency's protocol requires a home visit within 48 hours, meant to ensure that a child who is possibly endangered has a room to sleep in and food to eat.
Video footage shows the former New York congressman leaving his building alone around 6 a.m. Tuesday, and Weiner said Wednesday that he had not been visited or interviewed by child services officials.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 over another sexting scandal, and he and Abedin went through rehab and counseling. However, Abedin, a top aide to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, announced Monday after the photo was reported that the two would be separating.
