An 81-year-old woman died after a car crash in Anne Arundel County that also injured her 49-year-old daughter, officials said.

About 1:15 p.m. Sunday, police went to the scene of the crash, in front of 7400 Fort Smallwood Road in Pasadena. A 2006 Pontiac G6 traveling east on Fort Smallwood Road left the roadway and struck a tree on the passenger front side of the vehicle, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

The passenger, Catherine May Guthrie, was entrapped in the car and had to be removed by fire department personnel. She was taken to a hospital and died as a result of her injuries.

The driver, Gloria Ann Guthrie, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Gloria Guthrie and her mother lived at the same Baltimore address.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and do not believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
