A Maryland commission is expected to decide Thursday whether a new hospital will be built in Germantown or Clarksburg, ending a lengthy standoff between two of the area's largest health care providers.

Either a Holy Cross hospital would be built on Montgomery College's Germantown campus or an Adventist HealthCare hospital would be constructed in Clarksburg under plans the Maryland Health Care Commission is scheduled to rule on Thursday. Though the group could reject or accept both proposals, it is expected to approve just one.

Marilyn Moon, the commission's chairwoman, already has given her nod to the Holy Cross proposal, pointing to the heavily populated Germantown area.

The meeting begins at noon in Baltimore.
