Montgomery County employees will be allowed to leave work early Wednesday afternoon in advance of what is expected to be the year's first major snowstorm.

Via the county government Web site: Effective 2 p.m. today, liberal leave is granted for non-essential county employees. Liberal leave means that non-essential employees may use unscheduled annual leave, paid time off, leave without pay, or compensatory leave without prior supervisory approval.

The real debate: Is being labeled non-essential worth a few extra hours off?
