In the not-so-breaking-news department, Montgomery County is out of money.
Officials are seeking input about the suburb's more than $300 million shortfall at a forum 7 p.m. Monday at the Upcounty Regional Services Center, 12900 Middlebrook Road, in Germantown.
The county's Office of Legislative Oversight says the main culprit is escalating benefits and salaries, which increased 120 percent and 50 percent, respectively, during the last decade.
Future forums are scheduled for 7 p.m at the following locations:
- Thursday, Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring
- Jan. 18, Crossway Community, 3015 Upton Drive, Kensington.
- Jan. 20, Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring.
- Jan. 24, Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda.
