Montgomery County police will lead the investigation into the bank robbery and shooting that left the suspect dead and a police officer and at least two others hurt Friday morning.

The incident occurred at a Capital One bank in Langley Park after the robbery suspect left the bank at about 9:30 a.m., holding a female teller hostage at gunpoint. Takoma Park and Prince George's County police fired at the suspect, and a Prince George's officer was grazed in the leg.

Montgomery County police also responded, and will take over the criminal investigation into the robbery and officer-involved shooting because Montgomery officers weren't involved in the gunfire, authorities from the three jurisdictions said at a news conference.

Montgomery County authorities will work with the FBI on the bank robbery case, Chief Thomas Manger said. He said Takoma Park and Prince George's police will conduct their own administrative investigations.

The hostage escaped after the suspect apparently tripped over snow and ice.
