JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — An English-born Missouri woman has received a deferral that will allow her to remain in the U.S.

Lauren Gray, of Trenton, has lived in northern Missouri since her British parents arrived on a visa when she was 4 years old. Gray's 21st birthday is Wednesday, making in her ineligible to remain in the U.S. on her parents' visa.

Gray and Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill said Wednesday that federal authorities granted a two-year deferral that can be renewed. Gray also is to receive a work permit.

Gray says she is elated and that her future now looks bright. She studied dance at Stephens College in Columbia and graduated in May. Gray says she has a few auditions in Branson and hopes eventually to go to California.
