Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin said GOP nominee Donald Trump is "wrong" person to lead the country and predicted that he will lose in the general election.

"It's so likely that Donald Trump will lose, it doesn't — my entrance into the race doesn't affect that. I've been in this race for less than a week," McMullin said during an appearance on ABC's "This Week." "He's not a credible candidate," McMullin said.

McMullin only recently entered into the 2016 fray as an alternative to Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. A CIA veteran and former House Republican Conference policy adviser, McMullin said that Trump will continue to predict he will win because he never controls his words.

"But it's clear, the numbers, the fact that Donald Trump can't control what he says. He's never had to control what he says. Never in life has he had to do that. It's unrealistic to expect him to do that now," he explained.

McMullin argued that Trump is "dividing this country" and neither he nor Clinton will "bring this country together."
