RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gov. Bob McDonnell says Virginia is making significant advancements to improve transportation.
Officials say that $14 billion worth of transportation projects are under construction or in the procurement process. The projects include road and rail improvements aimed at keeping traffic, jobs and business moving in Virginia and along the East Coast.
Some of the larger projects are the $5.7 billion extension of the Dulles Metrorail, a $2.1 billion project in Hampton Roads involving a new Midtown Tunnel, the rehabilitation of the existing Midtown Tunnel as well as the Downtown Tunnels and the Martin Luther King Freeway extension.
In the Richmond area, eleven bridges along Interstate 95 are being restored to expand the life span of the bridges for at least 50 years.
