A statue of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was pelted with eggs two hours after it was placed in its new home on Sunday morning.

The statue of Thatcher was met with verbal and physical attacks, with some people throwing eggs at the statue and booing after it was placed on a 10-foot granite platform in Thatcher's hometown of Grantham, Lincolnshire, in the United Kingdom, according to the Irish Examiner.

Following the incidents, police put up a temporary barrier around the statue.

After getting approval from a planning committee in February 2019 for the statue, which cost 300,000 pounds, or roughly $367,349, to be built, the unveiling was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the outlet.
