The driver of a car involved in a fatal, single-vehicle crash in Alexandria early Thursday morning has been arrested, police said.

Javed Hussaini, 25, was charged with DUI-related manslaughter, according to Virginia State Police.

About 2:40 a.m. Thursday, a Virginia State Police trooper went to the southbound Interstate 395 ramp to westbound Route 236, which is near the Landmark Mall.

Hussaini was driving an Audi A8 on the ramp when it went off the road, spun around and hit a tree. The impact caused the car to split in half, and part of the car went over the guardrail and rested on a separate exit ramp. The back-seat passengers were ejected, police said.

One of the back-seat passengers -- 25-year-old A. Tawab Ebadi, of Chantilly -- died at the scene. Hussaini and two passengers -- Ilyas Qualandri, 23, of Springfield, and Fernanda Ferrufino, 23, of Alexandria -- were taken to a hospital and were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Hussaini was arrested after he was released from the hospital, police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. Alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, police said.
